Every year, the *Review* awards several editors with recognition for their exceptional dedication to the *Review*. This includes the **Gertrude Brick Award for the Best Student Note**, the **Frank E. Maloney Award for Outstanding Candidate**, the **D.T. Smith Award for Best Associate Editor**, the **Gertrude Brick Award for Outstanding Board Member**, and the **George W. Milam Case Comment Award**. These editors are recognized below.

# Gertrude Brick Award for Best Student Note To promote active participation in the *Florida Law Review* and foster a passion for legal writing, alumnus Albert Brick established the [Gertrude Brick Memorial Fund](https://www.uff.ufl.edu/giving-opportunities/002101-gertrude-brick-memorial-fund/) in honor of his mother. This award now recognizes the first-year Law Review member who authors the most outstanding Note. # Frank E. Maloney Award for Outstanding Candidate In 1946, [Frank E. Maloney](https://www.law.ufl.edu/alumni/frank-e-maloney), as one of only eight professors at the University of Florida College of Law, was pivotal in the foundation of the *Florida Law Review*. Alongside the first Editor in Chief, Harold B. Crosby, he helped garner support from [Governor Millard F. Caldwell in 1947 to fund the *Review*](https://www.floridalawreview.com/article/89017). Maloney's admiration for the new editors was evident when he described them as [“an unusually capable group of students.”](https://www.floridalawreview.com/article/89016) Maloney's influence extended beyond the *Review*, as he served as the Dean of the University of Florida College of Law from 1958 to 1970. Each year, in homage to Maloney's legacy and vision, the *Review* awards a 2L candidate the Frank E.
