The Florida Law Review is pleased to announce the inaugural lecture of the Allen L. Poucher Legal Education Series on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 10:30am. The event will feature a conversation about Judicial Reform with the following distinguished panelists:
– Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor
– Former ABA President Martha Barnett
– Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Rosemary Barkett
– Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince
The Allen L. Poucher Legal Education Series was established in 2006 in memory of Allen L. Poucher, Sr., a dedicated practitioner, husband, father, and humanitarian, the fund’s mission is to provide a venue for prominent legal, political, and business leaders to discuss the pressing issues facing our nation and the world today.
Allen L. Poucher, Sr. graduated from the University of Florida in 1942 prior to a career practicing law lasting more than sixty years.Active in Democratic politics, Mr.Poucher was a humanitarian who lived a life dedicated to service. Mr. Poucher was a founder of the Jacksonville Episcopal High School. Mr. Poucher passed away in 2001, but his legacy continues.
Betty K. Poucher went to work for the Army Air Corps after the Pearl Harbor attack. She was transferred to Jacksonville Naval Air Station, and shortly after the war ended, met, married, and lived happily with Mr. Allen Poucher for over fifty-five years. Mrs. Poucher is a dedicated philanthropist who supports organizations such as children’s and arts museums in Jacksonville, Florida. As a capstone to nearly a century of service, Mrs. Poucher endowed this series to witness, first hand, its impact on the lives of young people by attracting and hosting inspirational speakers to cultivate the nation’s future leaders.
